Thai police have promised to improve the country's tourist image following reports in the media about the sexual assault of a German tourist by a Thai guide.

The incident occurred on Koh Chang Island in late November. The 24-year-old woman hired a 55-year-old local resident as a guide. During the tour, the Thai man took the girl to a remote beach where there were no other tourists.

While on a boat, the man suddenly grabbed her from behind, attempted to remove her swimsuit, and then threw her into the water.

After the attack, the Thai man took the victim to the hotel and on the same day went to the police to report his actions.

The deputy chief of tourist police reported that the Thai man was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison without the possibility of early release.

In response to the incident, the tourist police promised to cooperate with local law enforcement agencies, administrative organizations, and relevant authorities to develop and implement measures to prevent similar incidents.

A representative of the Association of Professional Tourist Guides in Thailand stated that the incident on Koh Chang involved a guide without the proper license. The association, in turn, promised to implement control and supervision measures, including collecting information about tourists, detailed documentation of the tour route, and providing appropriate training for guides.
