The Thai police have issued safety guidelines for celebrating Loy Krathong.

Residents and tourists are advised to:

1. Refrain from consuming alcohol and narcotics. Under no circumstances should they drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
2. Avoid bringing any type of weapons to mass events.
 
3. Refrain from launching fireworks, firecrackers, and sky lanterns. Violations of these prohibitions may result in punishment, including up to 3 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of 60,000 baht.
 
4. Adhere to safety measures when attending mass events, keep an eye on children who might get lost in the crowd.
 
5. Be mindful of the risks associated with large gatherings of people on the reservoir banks.
