A Japanese national has been arrested in Pattaya for escaping and stealing an immigration police vehicle.

The Japanese tourist was wanted in a fraud case involving over 20 million yen (4.8 million baht). The 35-year-old Yuki Yagi was apprehended by Bangkok immigration police based on a request from the Japanese embassy.

He was transferred to the Ratchada Criminal Court for legal proceedings and then brought to the Suan Plu immigration office. Yuki asked the driver of the vehicle to bring him a wheelchair, claiming he had leg pain and difficulty walking.

Once he ensured the driver had exited the car, the Japanese man jumped from the rear of the vehicle, took the wheel, and attempted to drive away. While exiting, the vehicle collided with immigration officers, one of whom tried to stop the car but failed, sustaining minor injuries.

The fugitive managed to leave the immigration police premises in an official vehicle, which was later found on one of Bangkok's highways. He then hailed a taxi and headed to Pattaya, where he was apprehended by police the next day.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the Japanese man's visa had expired. Currently, he is in custody, and after facing charges related to his escape, he will be extradited to Japan.
