The 14-year-old teenager who carried out the shooting at Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok

The 14-year-old teenager who carried out the shooting at Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok has been charged with 5 offenses.

As a result of the incident, two people died, and five were injured, including citizens of China, Laos, and Thailand.

According to Major General Nakarin Sukontawit, the suspect has been charged with the following offenses:

  1. Murder
  2. Attempted murder
  3. Possession of firearms without a license
  4. Carrying firearms in a public place without permission
  5. Discharging firearms in a public place.

Major General Sukontawit added that additional charges related to the firearms and bullets found in the boy's room during the search may also be brought by the police.

Investigators are also looking into the teenager's parents for possible violations of the Child Protection Act. The parents claim they don't know where he obtained the gun and bullets, as they live in a separate house and visit him only once a month.

Today, the teenager was transferred to the Central Juvenile Court for further interrogation and legal proceedings. Psychiatrists at the Main Police Hospital conducted a preliminary assessment of the boy's mental health and concluded that he is not ready to testify.

There are concerns in Thai social media that the suspect might not be held accountable due to his status as a minor and his psychological issues. However, the parents of the suspect may potentially face legal consequences for the crimes committed by their child, according to Article 429 of the Civil and Commercial Code if they cannot prove their innocence.
