The Phuket authorities are preparing for the annual road safety campaign during the New Year holidays.

It is reported that additional checkpoints will be set up across the entire island. Although the campaign officially runs from January 29 to January 4, intensified road checks will commence on December 22, 2023, and continue until January 11, 2024.

The annual campaign aims to reduce the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries resulting from road traffic incidents, which typically increase during the New Year and Songkran celebrations.

This year, the campaign carries a new slogan, "7 Days of Family Happiness," replacing "7 Days of Danger." Authorities hope that the updated slogan will serve as motivation for all road users to minimize the number of traffic incidents during the New Year festivities.
