A photo of two foreigners sunbathing on the grounds of a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai has sparked outrage among locals.

The man reported the tourists' inappropriate behavior to the temple's abbot, but the situation did not change. Subsequently, the driver posted a photo of the women on his social media, leading to numerous negative comments directed at the temple administration.

In response to the criticism, the temple's abbot stated that he promptly addressed the incident, sending an English-speaking monk to explain the rules of conduct to the girls. After being advised, the women apologized and left the temple grounds.

It is currently unknown who will be held responsible for the incident, and whether the police will investigate the women.

A similar unpleasant incident occurred a few days earlier in Bangkok when two tourists sunbathed against the backdrop of the Royal Palace and the Emerald Buddha temple.
