Ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra

The prison sentence for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been reduced from 8 to 1 year due to a royal pardon.

News of the pardon became known after it was published in the Royal Gazette today.

In making the decision to pardon, His Majesty the King Rama X took into consideration the fact that Thaksin had been loyal to the monarchy, held the position of prime minister, and had undertaken numerous activities that benefited the country and its people.

Furthermore, Thaksin acknowledged his wrongdoing and ultimately agreed to serve his punishment. Additionally, the former prime minister is of advanced age and suffers from illnesses requiring specialized medical care.

Therefore, His Majesty The king Rama X has decided to mitigate Thaksin's sentence in the hope that he will continue to utilize his knowledge and experience to assist the country, society, and the people, as reported by the Royal Gazette.
