Travellers wait for flights at Chiang Mai international airport.

The Pheu Thai party has revealed some of its plans to stimulate tourism development.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced the intention to renovate all of Thailand's airports and to construct two new airports - one in Chiang Mai and another in Phuket.

In Chiang Mai, the new airport is intended to facilitate the arrival and departure of tourists during nighttime. According to the Prime Minister, the current airport has certain limitations.

The new Phuket airport is to be built exclusively for international flights. The current airport serves both international and domestic flights and has reached its full capacity of 14 million passengers per year.

Additionally, Phuket's international airport only has one runway, and the surrounding landscape does not allow for the construction of an additional one.
