New insurance policy proposes to enhance tourist safety

The Thai government has decided to postpone the implementation of a 300 baht tourist fee for incoming foreigners.

Instead, Prime Minister Setthasirith ordered the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to create a comprehensive insurance policy covering all tourists. The insurance plan will provide coverage up to 500,000 baht for injuries and 1 million baht in case of accidental death.

Providing comprehensive insurance is seen as a crucial step in increasing tourists' trust, especially after recent incidents highlighted safety concerns. In one case, a tourist from Taiwan was denied emergency medical care at a private hospital in Bangkok due to uncertainty about payment. The man passed away on the way to another hospital.
